Special Wednesday Otakon Update!

8/07/04    Well, we're all back from Otakon, and I must say a great time was had by most. I still think the con is far too big, but I always have preferred smller conventions. Still, Otakon is definitely the place to meet upwith everyone, as EVERYONE is there. I saw lots of people, including some I had not seen since moving to the midwest back in 2002. Otazine, despite a complete lack of publicity, actually sold fairly well and was apparently the most popular new item Otakon has ever offered. I am looking forward to working on future issues, and I'd wager it will get more support from the convention itself in the future. I hear the plan is to sell the remaining stock at other conventions, and through the website, so keep an eye out for it.

In other news, since I wound up with 40 bucks in my pocket after the convention (not bad for going to Otakon about 200 in the hole), I decided to pick up Art Asylum's Enterprise A toy. I've always liked the ship designs from the original Trek movies, and I've never really been interested in building model kits. I must say I'm impressed. I mean, it's no model kit in looks, but it's certainly much nicer looking than what you'd expect in a kid's toy marked 'Ages 3+'.

Finally, DOOM3 rocks me to my very core, as my friends are probably tired of hearing me say. I'm on an AMD2500+ with a Gig of RAM, and my videocard is an aging Geforce 3 with 64 megs of onboard RAM, and the game looks incredible. Even at the low resolutions, with most of the extras turned off, the game is visually amazing. The gameplay is pretty standard, but loads of fun. I love the added mechanics holding a flashlight brings to the game (though I hear lots of people complain about it).
